Idle War 0.5: a rebuilt game

v0.5

I cannot believe it has been 7 years since my last update!

A lot has happened in these past 7 years: I've become a dad twice, changed jobs and have a lot less spare time.

Hobbies like this one were left behind, and other ideas / games I had started prototyping but never went further than that. In truth, this was the one that went further.

However, we now live in very different times. And somewhat controversial times. It is a tough subject, but the use of AI, for good or bad, has become more common, and now that Pandora's box is open, it will be difficult to close it again.

But is also AI that allowed me to come back to this project and resurrect it. I can spend an hour or so at night making plans, bouncing ideas, adjusting my goals, and then let it have a go at it and I'll review the code on my sparse spare time. My strength is knowing what is being generated, and guide it towards what I would do, instead of trusting it blindly. After all, is an architect less relevant to the erection of a house, because they're not the ones laying down the bricks?

I know this won't sit well with everyone, but it was either use AI to help me realise my vision, or leave this and many other projects I would like to one day build die completely.

So here it is, version 0.5. Is not yet released, but a playable version will be uploaded soon. Almost every screen is new, the battle rules are simpler, and the game now has a story to play through.

Main changing points

  • Ships start every mission at level 1 and level up from the enemies they kill. Credits replace XP and upgrade points.
  • Waves are fixed per mission, with a boss alone on every fifth wave and collect waves in between.
  • A redesigned Volume I with five missions which will unlock the first ship, the Bulwark, next to the starting Corsair.
  • Pilots with abilities that grow with use, and six pieces of equipment per ship.
  • A new look that adjusts to the screen size, phones included.

The full list of changes is in the changelog.

I hope you all enjoy playing this game, and feedback is always welcome, good or bad. That's how we improve things.
